Eight Things Tag

I was actually tagged a long time ago and just remembered. :)

8 - Favorite TV Shows
Survivor, American Idol, Biggest Looser, Office...that is all I can think of and I thought I watched a lot of TV.

8 - Things I did yesterday.
Honestly I can't even remember yesterday. Isn't that sad....um let me think. Yeah nothing exciting is coming to mind.

8 - Favorite Restaurants
Daryl and I used to eat out a lot before we had kids and I could probably name at least 8 then but now we just hit the standard drive throughs. My favorite Restaurant for a while was El Paso BBQ and I like Mexican food from family owned none chain type places.

8 - Things I am looking forward to
Ema starting school, Having this baby, Everyday I look forward to downloading my bank info (I am totally a nerd about it), Getting completely out of debt...that is all I can think of right now.

8 - Things on My Wish list
I had a wish list of things to get before this baby is born and I have actually gotten the things on my list. I wanted a Baby Sling Pouch (Hillari made for me), New baby Car seat (just got a great deal on it), I wish I could decorate my bedroom and get new bed and furniture...It will be a while. Clean house with out having to do it... That is all I can think of right now. Oh and I don't want the love toilet sharing a bathroom is plenty good enough for me.

I think I am pretty boring and I didn't follow the rules very well...

So I tag anyone who hasn't done this one yet and wants to.

Grapes for Breakfast

Yesterday we had grapes from our own grape vines. We don't have nearly as many as last year but they are really good, small but good.

Summer Projects

I have been sewing and crafting a lot lately. I think it is because I am tired a lot but sitting and doing a project makes me feel rested and like I accomplished something. So here is what I have been up to lately.

I made these hair bows tonight by hot gluing little ribbon flowers I got from Wal-Marts craft department to regular stretchy hair bands. They work pretty well.

These are diaper pouches. I love them. They hold a small pack of wipes and a couple of diapers. Great for throwing in your purse or leaving when you have someone babysit your little one. I made one for me and one each for two of my sisters. Here are the Free online instructions on how to make the pouch. The lady who made the pattern says it is fine to use for yourself or gifts but not resale.
Here is a baby pouch sling that my friend Hillari made for me. She taught me how to make it and I made one for my sister Britney.

Here is Britney's sling. Her diaper pouch matches lining and all.

Here is a nursing cover I made for myself it has boning in it to allow the mom to see the baby when you are getting the baby settled and help them start nursing but blocks others from seeing.
Here are the free online instructions.
Here is the one I made for my sister Marsha. Her diaper pouch matches.
Ema wanted an apron so I roughly cut out a simple apron thinking she will be so happy. Then she wanted to cook. AAAAAAAAH! So we did.

Here are John and Ashlyn (cousin) helping Ema frost the cake we baked.
Here are more hair things I made. Most of them blue and white to go with Ema's school uniforms. She starts in one month. I can hardly believe it!

I made John a "Man Bag" so he would stop carrying around Ema's pink purse. He could put all of his manly toys in it. Ashlyn, Nathan and Jake (cousins) saw all the fun stuff I was making and wanted something. The boys got man bags and Ashlyn got a baby sling for carrying her dolls. Ema has one like it.

I also made a baby quilt. I have one more I want to make but I need to take a break first. It has been fun but I think I about have it out of my system for a while. I tend to be a little obsessive and do all or nothing.
Fun while it lasted!

Hooded towels for the kids

I wanted to make hooded towels for my kids and searched the internet for directions. I found the instruction HERE with easy to follow picture directions.

The butterflies and frogs are actually prints on felt I found at Hobby Lobby yesterday. I cut them out and sewed them on to the towels added ribbon, attached the hood to the towel and they were done.

It was a fun project. Of course I was up until midnight because it is so much easier to sew when my two year old is sleeping. Makes for slow morning this morning but I love the towels. :)

Fun Family Movie - Paul Blart Mall Cop

Daryl and I had the wonderful opportunity to drop our kids off at an awesome families house who offered to babysit while we went on a date. They did this for 8 families by the way. They are a great family but I am thinking they may be a little crazy. :) BTW Our kids had a great time playing with all the other kids.

Not feeling like we had a lot to spend on a date we hit Redbox for a $1 DVD rental and grabbed some ice cream and A&W Root Beer. My favorite!

Daryl and I really enjoyed it. It was rated PG which it doesn't seem like too many movies are these days. It was predictable but yet I have to say I giggled through most of it and would definitely recommend it for a fun family movie.

I love a good project

Monday I cleaned house all day and was pretty please at how clean I was able to get it. Tuesday I had no energy all day because of what I had done on Monday. Well that was until 7:30 pm when I should have started the before bed routine... I got the crazy idea of cleaning out my dishwasher. I love this dishwasher. It has been a really good one. However, I was starting to get some yucky food pieces left on my glasses so I knew it needed to be cleaned. In the past I have use a dishwasher cleaner and wouldn't have any problems for a while. However I didn't have one and didn't want to run to the store. I started searching how to clean a dishwashers online thinking I would find run vinegar through it or bleach or something like that.

I came across instructions on how take the bottom apart and clean around the drain and filters. So that is what I did. Kids ran wild, way past bed time. Daryl thought I was crazy. I am! I am 21 weeks pregnant and I spent a couple of hours squatting down by the dishwasher cleaning it. My legs and back didn't feel to great afterwards but I do have to say that when I was finished and had the whole thing put back together...and it worked. I was pretty happy.

I thought I would clean a little miscellaneous junk out from around the bottom and quickly put it back together. When I got all the parts at the bottom taken out and this is what I found. Thank heavens for a wet/dry vacuum. I was able to flush it with water, scrub it and vacuum out all the nasty stuff.

I was so worried about getting everything back together correctly that I didn't think of taking a picture of this same area cleaned but here is a picture to prove I got it put back together and I am very happy to say it works great! No more yucky stuff on my glasses!

Bottled Tomatoes

I got brave today and decided to do something I have never done before. We had extra tomatoes from the garden. There weren't a lot but more than we could eat. I really wanted to learn to bottle them. I spent 4 hours researching, and then 1 hour preparing tomatoes in jars and 40 minutes processing them.

I was completely worn out when it was over and only have three bottles (pints none the less) to show for it. I had 4 but one tipped over while cooking and lost all its liquid and started floating. I learned several things to do differently next time but I was happy with the results.

Daryl thinks they look like brains in a jar.
